Parenting Tips for Newborns: A Complete Guide for First-Time Parents

Feed Your Baby on Demand

One of the most important parenting tips is to feed your newborn whenever they show signs of hunger instead of following a strict schedule.

Hunger cues include:

  • Sucking on hands
  • Rooting (turning toward touch)
  • Opening the mouth
  • Smacking lips
  • Becoming restless

Crying is actually a late hunger cue.

Whether breastfeeding or formula feeding, most newborns eat:

  • 8–12 times every 24 hours
  • Every 2–3 hours
  • Sometimes more frequently during growth spurts

Always consult your pediatrician if you’re concerned about feeding or weight gain.
